Tenths and Hundredths - Mar 8, 2022
Today in maths, Year 3/4 have worked hard to understand that when dividing a 1 digit number by 10, the whole number becomes ten times smaller, and when dividing a 1 digit number by 100, the whole number becomes one hundred times smaller. This gives a decimal answer. For example: 5 divided by 10 = 0.5 or 5 tenths, or 5 divided by 100 = 0.05 or 5 hundredths. They used counters on a place value grid to help develop a concrete understanding of this.
