Off by Heart - Jan 25, 2022
This week the librarians have launched our poetry reading Challenge ‘Off by Heart’. The aim of the challenge is to learn a poem a week ‘Off by Heart’. The children will learn their poems in class and at home and perform them for each other.
We have tried to pick a variety of poems including funny poems and traditional poems. All of the poems have a good rhythm and rhyme which should make it easier for the children to remember them.
Your child will bring their ‘Off by Heart’ booklet home which contains all of the poems. At the end of each week, if your child is able to say the poem out loud from memory then their teacher will give them a red heart sticker to show that they have learned that poem ‘off by heart.’
During the project, each class will choose one of their poems to perform for the an audience. These will be filmed and added to the website. At the end of the project we are hoping to have a visit from a well known poet.
We are really excited about this project and think that the children will really enjoy it but we need your support too. Please practise regularly with your child so that they know the poems well and are confident to say them out loud. We know that by working together we can make this project a great success.
