  • Science week

    Thu 17 Feb 2022

This week is Science week and our theme this year is growth.

In Reception, we have been discussing how growth isn’t always something that you can see (on the outside) but often is something that happens on the inside (personal growth- like learning to ride a bike). To start the week, the children looked at personal growth and were given the task of drawing a portrait of their friend. As a group we then talked about the ways in which we could improve our drawing e.g. focusing on proportion and shape. The children were then asked to draw a second portrait of their friend. The children were amazed to see how much ‘growth’ they have made in such a short space of time.

During the second activity the children focused on physical growth (growth you can see). The children were each given a plant pot and a Runner Bean and as a class talked about what the bean would need in order to grow. The children thoroughly enjoyed taking part in this activity and are excited to take care of their plant and watch it grow.

  • Year 2b @ Northumberland College Zoo

    Thu 17 Feb 2022

Year 2b have had the most fantastic time at Northumberland College Zoo today which we visited as part of our Science ‘Animals and their habitats’ unit of work. First, our guides Emma and Callum gave us a tour of the zoo – they were both very impressed with how well behaved and knowledgeable the children were about the different world habitats. We saw a range of animals including fish, bush dogs and even wallabies. After lunch, we completed a workshop where we were lucky enough to handle and feel some amazing animals. The children were very sensible and brave. We met Pikachu the corn snake, Holly the python, Spike the bearded dragon, a hissing cockroach, a tarantula and finally a stick insect. Our favourite was a black and white Tegu who roamed around the area and was very curious to see us all. Have a look at our amazing pictures below.

  • Matt Goodfellow

    Thu 17 Feb 2022

To mark the end of our poetry project the children had a very special visit today from the poet Matt Goodfellow. Key Stage 1 had a fantastic time listening to Matt’s funny stories about his family, his life as a teacher and joining in with his poems. Matt even inspired us to write our own poems which we continued after the session.

  • Ten Pin Bowling Champions!

    Thu 09 Dec 2021

Some lucky children from school visited Riverside Bowling Alley to compete against other schools in the region. The children showed fantastic resilience, teamwork and good sportsmanship. We are so proud to say that St Augustine’s team 2 were the winners of the competition, each receiving a gold medal, certificate and a trophy which we have proudly displayed in our trophy cabinet. We are so proud!

  • PTA Christmas Fayre

    Fri 03 Dec 2021

WE have had the BEST DAY EVER!

The lovely PTA surprised us with an afternoon filled with excitement and joy.

It started with a visit to see Santa and his elves. Each child was given a gift from Santa and had their photo taken with him. Then, we ate popcorn and crisps whilst watching the pantomime ‘The Snow Queen’. Finally, we had a surprise visit from ‘The Grinch’ who delivered a bag of goodies for all the children.

We have had a busy afternoon in Reception!

A big thank you to the PTA for organising such a fantastic afternoon.
