Impact of Stereotyping - Jan 20, 2022

In RSHE, we looked at stereotyping and the impact it can have on individuals. We shared stereotypes we were familiar with such as, only boys can play football, girls want to be princesses etc and showed how these statements are simply not true. Moving on from this, we investigated racial stereotyping and listened to two premiership footballer’s stories of how their lives have been impacted due to this. In groups we were given a profile of a child and their where they were from, alongside this, were a number of stereotypes that could appear to be nice. Looking at these statements more in depth, we were able to see that these comments can still have a negative impact on the individual as assumptions are being made purely on their race. To end our lesson we discussed ways we can help to make a change and stop these stereotypes being made.
