Subtraction - Feb 4, 2022
This week in Maths, we have been learning how to subtract.
Throughout the week the children have taken part in a range of practical activities.
In one lesson, we completed an activity called ‘subtracting on the bus’. The children were tasked with reading a simple subtraction number sentence, counting out the correct number of passengers (the biggest number) and then ‘taking away’ the smallest number.
This activity really helped the children comprehend the concept of subtracting/taking away and the children loved being passengers on the bus.
In another lesson, the children played a game called ‘Race to 0’. For this task the children worked in pairs. They took turns rolling the dice, and took away that number of counters from their tens frame. The winner was the person who cleared their board first.
