DT Week – Pneumatic Toys - May 12, 2021
Year 3 really enjoyed DT week last week and we have finally finished evaluating our pneumatic toys. Taking inspiration from our Take One Picture painting ‘The Finding of Moses’, we designed a toy suitable for a child to play with using a pneumatic system. First we explored pneumatic systems – mechanical systems which use the power of trapped air to create movement – using sandwich bags, books, syringes and some plastic tubing. Then we designed, made and evaluated a toy that used an inflating balloon inside a box to open and close the lid, to look like an creature’s mouth. Some worked better than others but everyone put in 100% and we enjoyed developing our design skills.
