Father Paul is always pleased to welcome new people into the parish community and is more than happy to meet with families for a chat to discuss matters of the Christian faith, and to explain how much support is available in the parish of St Augustine’s and within the John Ingram partnership of Catholic parishes. Please telephone or e-mail to book an appointment to meet with Father Paul.
THE SACRAMENT OF BAPTISM
Baptism preparation for parents takes place every three months, in March, June, September and December. This programme is arranged over three consecutive Tuesday evenings from 7.00 p.m. at the church. These sessions must take place before a date can be arranged for the baptism.
Baptism enquiries: contact Deacon Patrick Jackson 07800 814589
When you ask for Baptism, you are asking that your child will have faith. The Church gives faith to your child with Baptism, and you have the task of making that faith grow, safeguarding it, so that it may become a testimony for all others. Parents are the first teachers of their children in the ways of faith, mainly by their example and encouragement. The parents should also be attending Sunday Mass regularly, showing that they want their children in the Church and all the many blessings that flow from that. Our following of Jesus Christ is always centred on the celebration of the Eucharist, because Jesus said, “Do this in memory of me.”
MASS TIMES
Times of Sunday Masses as follows:-
St Augustine’s Church, Wealcroft, Leam Lane, NE10 8QS.

Please note that Father Paul also celebrates Sunday Mass at St Oswald's, which provides you with an alternative time for weekend Mass:-
St Oswald’s Church, High Street, Wrekenton, NE9 7JQ.

Sacrament of Reconciliation (Confession)

IMPORTANT: If it has been some time since you have been practising your Catholic faith, it will be necessary to go to Confession BEFORE receiving holy Communion, or at least to have a confidential talk with the Father Paul, who will be able to give you spiritual advice and guidance, suitable to your current circumstances, whether you be single, married, or in a relationship outside of marriage.

Fr Ciaran McDonnell
16th November 1947 – 20th May 2012
My soul, praise the Lord! Every part of me, praise his holy name! My soul, praise the Lord and never forget how kind he is! Psalm 103:1-2
Fr Ciaran was a very important member of our school family. Our prayer garden at the front of the school is inspired by Fr Ciaran and his message – ‘Begin to love God today’. We have dedicated our meeting room in school to Fr Ciaran and we have photos of him on the wall.
At the end of each year we have the ‘Fr Ciaran Awards’ with three trophies, inspired by him, given out.
These are for:
- Sportsmanship
- Creativity and Expression
- Shining Light of Jesus
