Good to be Green

Rewards and Sanctions

‘Good to be Green’ Behaviour Scheme

The school uses Good to be Green as the main behaviour reward system.  All children are ‘green’ every day unless they choose to misbehave when they are then given warnings (yellow) or consequences (red).  Each day starts anew with children returning to ‘green’.

The School Rules

  • Follow adult directions first time, every time
  • Keep hands, feet, objects, and unkind comments to yourself
  • Be polite and respectful to others
  • Move around the school in a calm, quiet and safe manner
  • Respect each other, the environment and property of others
  • Always aim for your best work and allow others to do the same

Unacceptable behaviours:

  • Bullying; physical, verbal, cyber, emotional
  • Violence of any kind (hitting, kicking, shoving, biting, spitting)
  • Racial or verbal abuse (isolating, name calling, winding up, teasing, threatening)
  • Deliberate destruction of property/equipment
  • Stealing or telling lies
  • Persistent disruption of lessons

Sweets/toys/mobile phones are banned from school unless specific and prior arrangement has been agreed with the Headteacher.  These may be disposed of, by school staff, if repeated incidents occur.

Pupil Sanctions

Years 1 – 6

  • When poor behaviour prevents other children from learning or being safe, a child is given a verbal warning followed by an Amber/Yellow warning card
  • Disruption a second time results in a second warning/Red card.
  • If the poor behaviour continues, the member of staff repeats this process. Sanctions for a Red card may include loss of some or all of break or removal from class for a specific event, e.g. Year 6 Special Friend Time.
  • Detentions may be used for Year 5 and Year 6 if deemed necessary.

Reception/Nursery

  • The child’s name/picture may be written down or placed on an image e.g. raincloud, for a time limit, so that the child realises they have been reprimanded.

Pupil Reward Points

All children from Years 1 – 6 are registered on the school’s Pupil Reward Points site. They receive reward points for good work, behaviour, courtesy, citizenship etc. and may exchange the points for rewards or to ‘buy’ tickets to ‘Golden Events’.  Stickers are awarded by staff across the school.  Head teacher stickers and certificates are presented throughout the year.

In Early Years (Nursery and Reception) are given stickers/certificates etc. for their behaviour.
